Building Your Mental Health Toolkit

WIC had the opportunity to learn from Candice Heidebrecht on World Mental Health Day 2022. We learned from Candice the keys to maintaining ourselves and the relationships that we hold with others. Additionally, we discussed steps that we can take to properly respond to biases both in larger group settings and one on one. Candice shared with us the power of emotional intelligence and what it can do for us in reducing stress, being a more effective leader, reacting to constructive criticism, defusing conflict, and more. We learned how to apply some key concepts through many personal example's from Candice's own journey. We also talked about actionable ways to create safety for ourselves through things like exercise, deep breaths, laughter, creative expression, and more. Candice concluded by answering some of our own community member questions. She also offered up several resources on emotional intelligence including books such as Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves.
