The How and Why of DE&I : How to fight for DE&I at your company and what you can do to action as an individual

Session Summary: DEI is a powerful catalyst to improving not only the employee experience, but an organization’s overall success. So why is there so much opposition to it? Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts within organizations often face resistance due to imagined threats to status or comfort, a lack of understanding about the importance of diversity, or concerns about the perceived fairness of the initiatives. Many employees feel their organization could be doing more to build a culture of inclusion and belonging, but addressing these barriers and moving the needle requires more than education and empathy – you need to speak the language of leadership and bring hard-hitting data to the table.

Whether you’re looking to spark a grassroots effort or are ready to argue the business case to your C-Suite, we'll arm you with the essential knowledge and strategies to make a compelling argument for corporate DEI. This interactive session will equip you with tools, data, and actionable steps you can use to explore the business case of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at your organization to ignite the passion for inclusion and drive change at work and beyond!

Camille Goleb

Camille Goleb is the Program Manager for Inclusion & Diversity at Koppers. Among her initiatives in standing up the DEI function at Koppers is the launch of a full-scale Employee Resource Group (ERG) landscape, the introduction of inclusive manager and behavior training, and an industry-leading inclusion project aimed at frontline employees.

Camille began her career in DEI on the streets, supporting and learning from community antiracism organizers in Pittsburgh. Camille has organized, emceed, supported, and moderated events and initiatives in support of underserved and oppressed peoples in the local region and beyond since moving to Pittsburgh from Frederick, MD in 2012. She makes most of her good trouble with activism group Pittsburgh Feminists for Intersectionality, creators of the groundbreaking “$5 Fridays,” a direct giving initiative that provides groceries, rent, and other funds for vulnerable Pittsburghers experiencing crisis.

After climbing the career ladder at technology giant SAP, Camille realized she needed to align her working situation with her life’s work of antiracism and social justice, leading her to dive headfirst into corporate DEI. Several years into this journey the opportunity came to build a DEI program from the ground up, and so Camille left SAP and joined the Koppers family in December 2022.

Camille has a BA in Spanish Language and Literature from Towson University and lives in Pittsburgh with her husband Jeff.
